Mandatory Hotel Quarantine in Ireland has Ended

The Mandatory Hotel Quarantine system in Ireland ended with immediate effect on Saturday 25th September 2021. The last people in this system have been released.

People arriving in Ireland without proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test will now be told to quarantine at home.

According to the latest advice published here at time of writing, travellers "must still abide by the relevant travel regulations..". These include the need to:

  • have a pre-travel RT-PCR test unless you have possession of proof of vaccination or recovery
  • complete home-based quarantine
  • fill out a Passenger Locator Form prior to your arrival to Ireland

The Mandatory Hotel Quarantine system was introduced in late March 2021 as an extraordinary public health measure in response to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. Many reasons have been cited as to why the system could now be scaled down. These include the high level of vaccine uptake in Ireland.
